Gardai issue update as young woman found dead in Co Galway named locally

A young woman who was found dead in Co Galway on Tuesday has been named locally as Laura Vizgirdaite.

The 22-year-old went missing from Northern Ireland two weeks ago and was believed to have travelled to Clare during her disappearance.

She was last seen in the Far Circular Road area of Dungannon on September 12, Galway Beo reports.

Sadly, the young woman's body was found by walkers in Doorus in the north coastal area of Kinvara shortly after 11am on Tuesday.

A Garda investigation is still ongoing into the matter but it is understood that foul play is not suspected in her death.

Galway Fire Brigade and Rescue Services from Gort Station helped with the recovery of the remains with the body removed to University Hospital Galway where a post-mortem was carried out yesterday.

A Garda spokeswoman told Galway Beo: "Gardaí at Gort are investigating following the discovery of human remains in Kinvara, Co Galway.

"The discovery was made at approximately 11.30am this morning by a person walking near the shoreline. The remains, understood to be that of a female, was removed to the mortuary at UCHG."

He continued: "The local Coroner was notified and the Office of the State Pathologist conducted a post-mortem examination."
