Gardai issue update as woman, 80s, dies after three car crash

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to come forward after an elderly woman died following a three car crash.

The shocking collision happened on Albert Road Lower in Dun Laoghaire, Dublin, at 7.45pm on Sunday.

The female driver, who was in her 80s, passed away two days after the tragic incident.

The driver of the second car was injured, while the third vehicle, which was parked, had nobody in it at the time.

A garda spokesman said: "Gardaí are appealing for witnesses regarding a serious road traffic collision that occurred on the Albert Road Lower in Dun Laoghaire, Co Dublin on 5 December 2020 at approximately 7.45pm.

"Three cars were involved in the collision. One of the drivers, a woman in her 80s was taken to St.Vincent’s Hospital for treatment. The woman passed away two days after the incident. 

"The driver of the second car was uninjured. The third car involved, which was parked, had no occupants at the time of the collision.

"Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward. Gardaí are also appealing for any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and who were travelling in the area between 7:35 – 7:50pm to make this footage available to Gardaí.

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact Dun Laoghaire Garda station on 01 666 5000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station."
