Gardai issue fines and tow cars as motorists block roads near beaches in Connemara, Co Galway

Gardai issued over 120 fines as motorists blocked roads near beaches in Connemara, Co Galway.

A car was also towed for illegally parking around the beaches in the Roundstone area as temperatures soared.

Roads were blocked around the Dogs Bay beach and Gurteen Bay beach as hundreds flocked to the beaches that are internationally recognised for their beauty and were included in the Lonely Planet's 2021 top ten Irish beaches.

Gardai Siochana Western Region posted on Facebook: "Gardai in Clifden are appealing to motorists that are visiting beaches in the Roundstone area to please have consideration for local residents and other road users.

"Unfortunately today a large number of vehicles were left parked in a manner which obstructed other road users and had to be towed and/or have FCPN's issued."

Garda Siochana posted on Twitter: "As public health regulations continue to be reduced & activity begins to normalise, we continue to remind the public of the ongoing public health guidelines, which include not to gather in large groups, maintain social distancing & wearing of face coverings in crowded areas."
