Gardai issue appeal for lady walking her dog to come forward as possible witness to attempted abduction in Dublin

Gardai are appealing for a woman who spoke to an attempted abduction victim on the morning of the attack to come forward.

A man was arrested over the assault and attempted abduction of a woman in Dublin on Monday, but was later released.

The lady in her 60s was attacked by a man who tried to force her into the boot of his car on Blackhorse Avenue in Cabra, at around 7.30am.

She managed to flee the scene.

Gardai said yesterday that a 20-year-old man is being held at Blanchardstown Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act (1984) on suspicion of offence of false imprisonment contrary to Section 15 of Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act (1997).

He was later released. A file is currently being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Gardai said a vehicle "of interest to the investigating team" has also been detained and is being forensically examined.

They added that an incident room has been established at Blanchardstown Garda Station and a full investigation is being carried out.

A "sequence of information gathering checkpoints" were carried out this morning at the location of the incident on Blackhorse Avenue.

Renewing their appeal for witnesses this morning, gardai urged that they are eager to speak to a woman who was walking her dog on the morning of the attempted abduction.

A spokesman said: "As part of the investigation into the attempted abduction of a female in her 60s, on Blackhorse Avenue 6 January 2020, Gardaí wish to renew their appeal for witnesses.

"Gardaí believe that at approximately 7.30am on the morning of 6 January 2020, the injured party spoke briefly to an elderly lady who was walking a dog.

"They met close to Cumiskeys pub.

"Gardaí are anxious to speak to this person who was walking their dog, and who may be in a position to assist with the investigation.

"Anyone with information should contact Blanchardstown Garda station is01-6667008."
