Man, 30s, found dead in cell after incident involving two prisoners at Cloverhill Prison, Dublin

A man in his 30s has been found dead in his cell after an incident involving two male prisoners in custody at Cloverhill Prison.

Gardai say they are following a definite line of enquiry after they and Emergency Services were called by prison authorities to the prison shortly after midnight.

The man was treated at the scene by emergency services but was pronounced dead a short time later.

The body of the deceased remains at the scene which is currently being preserved and a full forensic and technical examination is due to take place later today.

A spokesman for Gardai said: "The Coroner has been notified and the services of the State Pathologist and Garda Technical Bureau have been requested.

"Gardaí are following a definite line of enquiry and the investigation is ongoing. Further updates will follow."
