Gardai have confirmed they're investigating an allegedly racist incident near a South Dublin Luas stop over the weekend.
A viral video has been doing the rounds showing two teen girls abuse a Mexican man telling him he doesn't "belong here" because he's an "immigrant and was born in a different country."
Two teens are seen verbally abusing the man before one of them gabs a set of headphones and breaks them.
The incident, which happened at Windy Arbour Luas Stop, was reported to gardai who say they are now investigating.
A spokesperson said: “Gardaí are investigating an incident that occurred in Windy Arbour, Dundrum at approximately 5.20pm on 1st June 2019. No injuries were reported. Investigations are ongoing.”
The victim, who stays calm throughout, took a video of the incident which has since been viewed almost a million times and has been seen allover the world.
The man said he had been visiting the area before the teens heard him speaking on the phone in Spanish and approached him.
There's been a hugely embarrassed reaction to the footage from Dubliners who said they were ashamed of the way he was treated.
One said: "Their parents must be so proud of the job they’ve done raising them."
Another wrote: " They need a good lesson in manners and respect. This is embarrassing."
