Gardai investigating death at second hostel as 30-year-old man found dead in Tullamore

Gardai are investigating all circumstances surrounding the death of a man at a hostel in the midlands.

A 30-year-old man passed away last Wednesday, April 22, at an accommodation unit in Tullamore, Co Offaly.

He was residing at a different hostel to the one where two women died and two men became seriously ill yesterday.

A garda spokesperson told The Irish Daily Mirror: "Emergency services and Gardaí attended at the scene shortly after 11am after the man had taken ill. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

"A post-mortem was carried out and Gardaí are awaiting toxicology results to determine the course of their investigation. His death is not thought to be Covid-related.

"The local Coroner has been notified and enquiries are ongoing."

Yesterday, two women tragically died after taking ill at a homeless hostel in the Midlands.

And two more men have also been left seriously ill after being discovered at the hostel in Tullamore, Co Offaly.

It's understood the two women were found dead between 2.30am on Sunday and 8am on Monday.

The "unexplained deaths" involve a woman in her late teens and a woman aged 44.

One of the men, 23, has since been taken to hospital where he is said to be in a critical condition. The second man, 32, is also ill in hospital.

The deaths are not believed to be Covid-19 related.
