Gardai investigating as lowlife makes 'hoax cliff fall call' during storm putting Irish volunteer crews and fire service in danger

A lowlife trickster put the lives of many people at risk last week when they made a hoax call about a cliff fall during a terrifying Irish storm.

The phone call made to the Greystones Coast Guard Unit stated that a male had reportedly fallen down a cliff and was cut off by the tide during Storm Ciara last Sunday.

The Unit along with Wicklow Fire Service and Wicklow Gardaí, began a full search of the area before 2pm.

Three emergency services were deployed to the area but once the operation was completed, the call was declared a hoax and all units were stood down.

They added: "Gardaí are taking this very seriously and are investigating."

The Coast Guard said: "This hoax call put the lives of our volunteer crews and those of our colleagues in the Fire Service and local Gardaí in danger during a storm warning.
