Gardai investigating 'all circumstances' after man's body found in Co Mayo river

Gardai are investigating after a man's body was discovered in an Irish river on Saturday.

The body of the 44-year-old was recovered from the River Carrowniskey in Louisburgh, Co Mayo on Saturday afternoon.

It is understood a multi-agency search operation was launched after a man was reported missing on Friday night.

However, this was stood down after a body was located, with Westport Coast Guard helping gardai to recover a man's body from the water.

A post-mortem examination will take place an a file will be prepared for the Coroner's Court.

Gardai say they are "investigating all the circumstances in relation to the discovery".

However, it is understood they are not treating the man's death as suspicious.

A garda spokesperson told the Irish Mirror: "Gardaí in Louisburgh are investigating all the circumstances in relation to the discovery of a body found in the River Carrowniskey this afternoon Saturday 13th November, 2021.

"The man's body (44 years) was removed from the river with the assistance of the Westport Coast Guard.

"A post mortem will take place and a file will be prepared for the Coroners Court."
