Gardai investigating after machinery set alight at site of long-awaited Tallaght library

Gardai are investigating after a fire was started in a construction site of a new library in North Tymon, Tallaght yesterday evening.

Heavy machinery was set alight on the site of the long-awaited Castletymon Library, which is located on at Tymon North Gardens in the south Dublin town.

Dublin Fire Brigade took to Twitter to confirm they had multiple engines at the scene to extinguish the blaze.

They said: "We're aware of the fire in Tymon North, Tallaght and have two fire engines attending.

"The fire is located on a construction site, and heavy machinery is alight."

A garda spokesman told Dublin Live they were investigating the incident.

He said: "Gardaí are investigating an incident of suspected criminal damage by fire that occurred at a construction site on Castletymon Road, Tallaght at approximately 9.30pm on Sunday 14 July 2019.

"A number of vehicles and porto cabins were damaged. No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing."
