Gardai investigating after late-night thieves 'scoop' unusual item from outside Kerry shop

Some cheeky locals going on a late-night adventure could be faced with 99 problems after they whipped a strange item from outside a Kerry filling station.

Owning a giant ice cream cone ain't one such problem for the culprits who scooped the random piece of street furniture this week.

The advertising sign was too sweet to leave behind for the pranksters who picked it up from outside the shop on Killarney’s Muckross Road.

The thieves must have froze when they saw the opportunity for mischief in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The theft happened outside the Applegreen filling station and shop at 3.45am, according to KillarneyToday which first reported the chilling act.

The shop's owners will presumably be hoping those who took the cone will get their just desserts after they contacted the gardai.

A garda spokesperson confirmed an investigation had been launched after the item was whipped from outside the store.

They said: "Gardaí are investigating a theft that occurred at a retail premises on the Muckross Road, Kerry in the early hours of Tuesday 24th August 2021.

"No arrests have been made, investigations are ongoing."

KillarneyToday added that anybody that might have spotted three men walking on Muckross Road with a giant cone under their arms "doesn’t need to dial 99-9" but is asked to contact Killarney Garda Station on 064-6631222.
