Gardai say they are investigating "all the circumstances" surrounding the discovery of a woman's body on Sunday.
The woman, who is understood to be in her 30s, was reported missing from Cashelard in Co Donegal on Saturday night.
Gardai, the coast guard and volunteers from the Rescue 118 helicopter service were involved in the search for the woman.
The land, sea and air probe began on Saturday and recommenced at first light on Sunday morning.
Gardai confirmed on Sunday afternoon that a woman's body had been found in Lough Columbkille near Ballyshannon.
The woman has been taken to Sligo General Hospital where a post mortem will take place.
Gardai are "investigating all the circumstances surrounding" the discovery and conducting enquiries.
A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí in Donegal are investigating all the circumstances surrounding the recovery of the body of a woman from Lough Columkille, Ballyshannon, Co. Donegal this afternoon, Sunday, 24th October 2021
"The body of the deceased has been removed to Sligo General Hospital where a post mortem will take place.
"No further information is available at this time. Enquiries are ongoing."
