A investigation has been launched after a teenage girl was allegedly raped in a Co Mayo playground.
The horrific incident took place in the Lowpark area of Charlestown, in Mayo on Saturday.
A forensic examination of the scene has taken place
Charlestown councillor Gerry Murray told the Irish Mirror: "The community is shocked, that it took place during daylight hours or early evening is probably more shocking.
"Everybody is devastated and extremely sorry, with huge sympathy for the victim."
Gardai investigations are ongoing and no arrests have been made..
A garda spokesman said: "Anyone with information, particularly anyone who was in the vicinity of the Square and/or Lowpark areas of Charlestown between 2pm – 8pm, is asked to contact Garda in Claremorris on 094 937 2080 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111."
