Gardai investigating 'acid attack' on three women at Dublin takeaway

An 'acid' attack on three women at a takeaway is being probed by gardai.

Officers are investigating a serious assault that happened at The One Asian Kitchen in The Square, Tallaght, Dublin on Sunday evening.

A woman in her early 30s is believed to have walked into the takeaway at around 8pm and thrown a substance, thought to be acid, at staff.

Three women, one in her early 20s and the others in their late teens, were taken to the nearby Tallaght University Hospital.

One woman remained there on Monday afternoon while the others were discharged.

The One Asian Kitchen said it had to close at 9pm on Sunday due to an “unexpected emergency”.

The restaurant released a statement on its Facebook page apologising for the sudden closure.

It read: “Due to an unexpected emergency in The One Asian Kitchen, it is necessary to shut down the service temporarily tonight to accommodate the situation.

“We will not be able to take your order and serve you with food.

“We apologise for the inconvenience this will cause you. Thanks you for your understanding.”

A woman was arrested on Sunday night at around 10pm in connection with the attack.

She was taken to Tallaght Garda Station, where she is being held.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí in Tallaght are investigating a serious assault that occurred at a takeaway shop in The Square Tallaght, yesterday evening Sunday 14th December, 2020 at approximately 8pm.

“One woman (early 30s) walked into the shop and threw a substance at a number of woman behind the counter.

“All women (late teens and early 20s) were taken to Tallaght University Hospital and one woman remains in hospital at this time, the other two woman have been discharged.

“A woman (early 30s) was arrested last night, Sunday 13th December, 2020 at approximately 10pm and taken to Tallaght Garda Station where she is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

“Investigations ongoing.”
