A young armed teenager was arrested by gardai after threatening passengers and damaging a Luas using a weapon during a frightening incident in south Dublin.
Gardai responded to the public order incident on 18 January just before 6pm at the Drimnagh Luas Stop on Davitt Road.
When they arrived, they spotted a large group of youths causing a disturbance at the stop, one of whom was in possession of a metal pole.
The youth in question had been using the weapon to threaten passengers on the popular service before damaging the Luas tram seating with it.
A garda spokeswoman told Dublin Live: "The juvenile was arrested under Section 6 of Public Order Act and investigations are ongoing."
This horrifying incident came just one week after a woman's hair had allegedly been set on fire by a horrible group of teenagers on the Luas Red Line.
It is claimed that the passenger's hair was set alight by the young gang on a tram travelling from the city centre to Tallaght on January 11.
Speaking about the incident to The Irish Independent, a spokesperson for Transdev Ireland said that "Luas security staff were slow in responding to the incident".
They added: "Security was deployed elsewhere on the lines at this particular time. This was not satisfactory and we apologise to Luas customers and those affected."
Transdev Ireland has been contacted by Dublin Live for further comment.
