Gardai investigate as man tries to drag girl, 6, into bushes at south Dublin park

An investigation has been launched after a man tried to drag a six-year-old girl into bushes at a Dublin park.

Locals have been told to be on alert after the terrifying incident happened in Tymon Park in the south of the city on Sunday afternoon.

The young girl is understood to have been playing in a nearby playground when a man approached her, Dublin Live reports.

It's understood the man slapped the little girl before attempting to cover her mouth and drag her into nearby bushes.

The man only let her go after hearing her mother calling out for her and he then quickly left the scene.

Local Neighbourhood Watch groups have urged parents to be extra vigilant when bringing their kids to the popular park.

A garda spokesman told Dublin Live they are investigating the terrifying incident.

He said: "Gardaí are investigating an incident involving a child that is reported to have occurred at approximately 2:30pm on Saturday 13th June 2020 at Tymon Park, Terenure, Dublin 6. The exact nature of the alleged incident is still to be confirmed."
