Gardai investigate as horror video shows man armed with two machetes in Galway city street brawl

This is the moment where a man carrying two machetes appeared to square off with another man in Galway city on Monday night.

The incident occurred in the Quay street area and footage shows two men back another male against a shop front, before he manages to make a quick escape, running up the street towards the city centre.

He is swiftly pursued by a large group, all dressed in black who attempt to chase him up the street, one clearly armed with two large knives, Galway Beo reports.

Their pursuit of the intended target is interrupted by another man, dressed in a white tracksuit who attempts to grab one of the group and grapple one of the men, who appears to be unarmed.

A garda spokesman told Galway Beo: "“Gardaí in Galway are investigating an assault which occurred on Quay Street, Galway on the morning of Sunday October 24, 2021.

"The incident occurred shortly after midnight, with a male in his late teens sustaining non-life threatening injury. Anyone with information is asked to contact Gardaí in Galway on 091538000.”

This incident follows a recent spree of incidents in the City over recent days. Last week, a woman was left with serious injuries after being struck by a firework on Eyre Square.

Gardaí are also making inquiries into an incident that took place on High Street last week that shows a man appearing to be knocked unconscious in a street brawl between three men.
