Gardai investigate as body found by walker in horror discovery in Kinvara, Co Galway

Gardai have launched an investigation after a body was found in Co Galway on Tuesday.

The tragic discovery was made at around 11.30am when a walker in the Doorus area of Kinvara found the body, believed to be that of a woman, washed up by the shore.

Members of the Galway Fire Brigade and Rescue services rushed from Gort Station to assist with the recovery of the remains, Galway Beo reports.

The body was removed to University Hospital Galway where a post-mortem will be carried out.

Gardai are currently trying to identify the body which is understood to have been in the water for at least one week.

A Garda spokeswoman told Galway Beo: "Gardaí at Gort are investigating following the discovery of human remains in Kinvara, Co Galway.

"The discovery was made at approximately 11.30am this morning by a person walking near the shoreline. The remains, understood to be that of a female, have been removed to the mortuary at UCHG."

He continued: "The local Coroner was notified and the Office of the State Pathologist have been requested to conduct a post-mortem examination.

"Efforts to identify the deceased are ongoing and the outcome of the post-mortem will determine the course of the Garda investigation.”
