Gardai investigate after taxi driver robbed at knifepoint during terrifying ordeal in Cork city

A taxi driver was threatened with a knife by a passenger in Cork city on Wednesday morning.

The scary incident happened at around 10am at Spring Lane in Blackpool just outside the city centre.

The driver, who is in his 60s, was confronted by the passenger who demanded money from him while brandishing a knife.

He then left the car with a sum of cash.

No one was injured in the incident and no arrests have been made as yet.

Gardai have since launched an investigation into the incident.

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí at Watercourse Road are investigating a theft which occurred this morning, 6th October 2021, at Spring Lane in Blackpool, Co.Cork.

"At approximately 10am, a man, aged in his 60s, was threatened with a knife by a male passenger who was in his vehicle at the time.

"The man demanded money from the driver and later left the vehicle with a sum of cash.

"No injuries were reported and no arrests have been made.

"Investigations are ongoing."
