Gardai intercept vehicle in Limerick and find large haul of cocaine as man arrested

Gardai intercepted a vehicle in Limerick to find almost a quarter of a million worth of cocaine on Saturday afternoon.

Officers chased down the car on the R510 near Raheen with one Garda vehicle being damaged in the process.

A man was arrested at the scene in connection with the incident while €245,000 worth of cocaine was seized.

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí have arrested a man and seized a large quantity of suspected cocaine in Raheen, Co. Limerick yesterday, Saturday 23rd January 2021.

"At approximately 3:30pm yesterday afternoon, Gardaí intercepted a vehicle on the R510 in the Raheen area. During the course of the search of the vehicle €245,000 worth of cocaine (pending analysis) was seized.

"A Garda vehicle was damaged during the course of the operation.

"A male in his 30s was arrested at the scene and is currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at Henry Street Garda station. He can be held for up to 7 days.

"Investigations are ongoing"
