Gardai in Limerick investigate as man seriously injured after being set upon by group of men

Gardai are investigating after a man was injured in a terrifying assault in Co Limerick.

The incident happened in the city last weekend.

Officers rushed to the scene just before 1am on Saturday.

A man in his 30s was rushed to University Hospital Limerick after the attack.

Divisional crime prevention officer, Sergeant Ber Leetch, told the Limerick Leader that the man suffered facial injuries, broken ribs and a head injury after the assault by a group of men in the Cornmarket Row area.

However, it is understood that the injuries are non-life-threatening.

Nobody has yet been arrested in connection with the incident.

A garda spokesman said: "Gardaí are investigating an incident of assault that occurred on the 16th October 2021 in Limerick City at 12.57am.

"A man in his 30s suffered non-life-threatening injuries and taken to University Hospital Limerick for treatment.

"No arrests have been made. Investigations are ongoing."
