Gardai in Cork seize car after they discover tax is almost 600 days out of date

Gardai in Macroom, Co Cork seized a car after they discovered the tax disc was 598 days out of date.

And not only had the motorist let their tax lapse for close to two years, they had previously been prosecuted for not having tax.

A garda spokesperson said: "This car was stopped in Co. Cork recently. A quick check on the mobility app showed the tax was out of date by nearly 600 days.

"Driver had been previously been prosecuted for no tax. Car seized."

Meanwhile, another car was seized in north Dublin after a driver drove through a stop sign.

A tweet from the official Garda Traffic account said: "It transpired that the driver had no insurance, tax or NCT.

"The vehicle was seized with court proceedings to follow."

And a third vehicle was seized in Cahir, Co Tipperary after a driver provided false details to gardai.

When officers checked the details on the mobility app, they discovered the motorist was disqualified from driving.

A spokesperson said: "The car was seized and court proceedings to follow."
