Gardai hunting youth gang after Samuel Beckett Bridge brawl left one man in hospital with stab wounds

Gardai are hunting youth gang after a brawl on Samuel Beckett Bridge in Dublin city centre left one man in hospital with stab wounds.

The shocking scenes took place just after 7pm on Monday evening.

Groups from the inner city and south Dublin went toe-to-toe on Samuel Beckett Bridge near the Convention Centre where one person was stabbed.

Dublin Live understands that the stabbing victim was slashed in the leg by a young attacker armed with a Stanley knife.

He was taken to the Mater Hospital but has since been released.

Gardai have issued a renewed appeal for information this afternoon, including any drivers with dash-cam footage or any witnesses.

A Garda statement this afternoon read: "Gardaí from Store Street are appealing for witnesses in relation to an assault and public order incident involving a large number of youths on Samuel Beckett Bridge in Dublin city on Monday evening 22nd March, 2021 shortly after 7p.m.

"One man was taken to the Mater Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries and has since been released.

"Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have information or who may have witnessed the incident to come forward to them.

"Anyone who was travelling on the bridge or in the area that includes Sir John Rogerson's Quay and Guild Street between 7p.m. - 8p.m. and who may have camera (dash cam) footage, is also asked to contact Gardaí.

"Anyone with any information should contact Store Street Garda Station on 01 6668000, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda station."

Several units from Store Street and Pearse Street Garda stations remained at the scene on Monday night for hours as they tried to calm tensions between the dozens of kids.

A source told Dublin Live: "These types of clashes are happening every night between these gangs but it's about to get worse.

"One young teen was stabbed in the leg and ended up in hospital.

"This has been going on for weeks where young lads are meeting on the bridge for organised fights.

"This happens up to two to three times a week. Dozens and dozens of young people on bikes who are able to flee the scene quickly when cops come."
