Gardai hunting two men at centre of chaos-filled car-stealing spree in rural Donegal

Gardai are hunting two men who caused havoc in rural Donegal after stealing two cars and crashing them before setting one of the vehicles on fire.

The bizarre series of events started on 9am on July 12 when a white Renault Kangoo van was stolen from outside a house in Stranorlar.

The stolen car was spotted by a member of the public driving dangerously 15 miles away in Lifford.

Just a few minutes later at 9.45am the men stole a second vehicle, a red Toyota Landcruiser.

The jeep was stolen from a local farmer who had just got out of the vehicle to feed sheep in a local field.

The stolen jeep and van both headed off in the direction of Carrigans village close to the border with Derry.

Both vehicles are believed to have crossed into Derry before returning to Carrrigans were the jeep was set alight just before 10am.

The two men left the scene in the stolen Renault Kangoo van but they were then involved in a collision with another vehicle at Kildrum Lower, Carrigans at 10am.

Thankfully the other driver was uninjured.

The stolen van was driven onwards and it is believed to have crossed the border at Killea. The stolen Renault Kangoo van has since been recovered by the PSNI across the border in Derry.

Gardai in Letterkenny are appealing for any information on the chaotic incidents which all took place in the space of an hour on the morning of July 12.

A spokesperson said "We are appealing to anybody who may have dash cam footage of two men on foot in the Trenamullin area or surrounding area in Stranorlar between 8.45am and 9am on the morning of Tuesday July 12 to contact Gardaí.

"We also appeal to all road users who travelled between Stranorlar and Lifford that morning between 9am and 9.40am or between Lifford and Carrigans between 9.40am and 10am to contact Gardaí if they witnessed these vehicles being driven or if they have dash cam footage.

"If anybody witnessed the collision that morning between the white Kangoo van and a silver Peugeot 207 at Kildrum Lower, Carrigans at 10am we would like to hear from them also.

"Gardaí in Letterkenny may be reached on 074-9167100. The Garda Confidential line may be reached on 1800 666 111."
