Gardai hunt thieves who hit 'new low' after communion incident in Meath church

Mass goers are being warned after a "new low" of thefts in Meath.

Gardai in Navan are investigating after a number of people had their bags stolen while they went to receive Holy Communion during service.

The heartless thieves got away with the loot while mass goers around Ireland are being told to be vigilant.

Dissapointed gardai have said they hope the incident was a once off, and that the investigation is ongoing.

Meath Crime Prevention said: "I think this is the first time we have had to offer advice to people attending church following the two thefts last weekend in Navan.

"Its a new low for somebody to carry out a theft while somebody is going to receive communion. We hope it is a once off, but please be careful of leaving bags unattended even at mass.

"Navan Gardai are investigating the thefts."
