Gardai hunt mystery car snapped by member of the public in anonymous tip

Gardai are hunting for a mystery car after an anonymous tip from a member of the public.

Officers in Wicklow are investigating after a "high value property" theft at a Sports Direct store in the town.

The incident happened at around 12.45pm on Monday.

Gardai said that a passerby witnessed the theft and went into the shop to share a photo of the thief and a car used in the incident.

However the member of the public did not leave their details and has not yet been traced.

Officers said that the car was a silver Volkswagen Passat, but no further details have been made public.

Gardai are asking for the witness to come forward with their information as they continue to investigate the incident.

A Wicklow garda spokesman said on Monday: "A theft of high value property took place at Sports Direct in Wicklow this afternoon at 12.45 pm

"A passerby witnessed same and went into the shop with a photo of the offender and his car, a silver VW Passat.

"Unfortunately, the witness didn't leave his details and the Gardai at Wicklow would appreciate if he could contact them on 0404-6014."
