A female cyclist was rushed to hospital following a hit-and-run in Tallaght.

Gardaí have launched an investigation into the horror incident, involving a cyclist and a car, that occurred on the Cheeverstwon Road at the junction with Fortunestown Way at 8.30am on Friday.

According to gardai, a black Volkswagen Passat collided with the cyclist and then fled the scene.

The cyclist, a woman aged in her 20s, was taken to Tallaght University Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Gardaí are now appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

They are particularly interested in speaking to any witnesses or road users who may have camera footage (dash-cam) and were in the area between 8 am - 9 am.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Gardaí in Tallaght on 01 666 6000 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
