Gardai hit out after 'bored' teen meant to be self-isolating caught socialising despite pending Covid-19 test

Gardai have hit out at a "bored" teenager who hung out with pals despite being told to self-isolate.

The boy, who socialised with four other people, was advised to stay indoors due to a pending Covid-19 test.

One of the group suffered a "severe asthma attack" after meeting up on Sunday night.

Gardai have now pleaded with parents to "step up to the mark" following the incident.

They posted on Facebook: "A group of five young people out socialising all night last night.

"One, who was supposed to be self-isolating pending a COVID 19 test but was bored and decided to join his friends. One of these youths suffered a severe asthma attack.

"This action put the safety of the Emergency Services, and continued service to the public, at risk. Parents - step up to the mark.

"Your responsibility. We are busy enough! Please Share! #SocialDistancing #WashYourHands."

So far, four people have died in Ireland due to coronavirus.

The disease has infected 906 people in the Republic of Ireland, according to the latest figures released on Sunday.
