Gardai have launched a caption competition after a chicken crossed the road in Laois!
Yes, seriously.
A hen managed to wander its' way to the Abbeyleix Circle K petrol station - with hilarity ensuing as officers attempted to cajole it to safety.
We're not sure if there was an eggsceptional crime committed by the pecking perp, but we're sure that the hit team at the Laois-Offaly units will be able to crack it if so.
They took to social media to explain the situation and launch a caption competition for the public to play along with.
They said: “Garda Shine had his hands full in Abbeyleix this morning, playing chicken with this feisty fellow. All captions welcome. Keep it decent now.”

And then there was the classic:
"Chicken: “I swear I didn’t cross the road garda” …
"Garda: “I’m not concerned with the fact that you crossed the road, all I want to know is why? Why did you cross the road?”!"
