Gardai found skeletal remains of baby in Cork property after getting confidential information

Gardai discovered the skeletal remains on a baby in Cork after receiving a confidential tip.

Officers attached to Midleton made the grim discovery last week in Killeagh.

It's believed the bones belong to a baby.

They have since been exhumed and taken to the Cork City Morgue with a postmortem now scheduled to take place.

A Garda spokesperson told CorkBeo : They said: "Gardaí at Midleton continue to investigate all the circumstances surrounding the discovery of juvenile skeletal remains in Killeagh, Co. Cork.

"The discovery was made following receipt of confidential information and An Garda Síochána are following a definite line of enquiry.

"The remains were removed to Cork City Morgue and the assistance of a Forensic Anthropologist has been sought.

"A post mortem is still scheduled to take place, the results of which will direct the course of the investigation."

In January of last year, skeletal remains were found on the route of the old railway line on the outskirts of Midleton in East Cork as work was being done to clear the way for the new Greenway.

The discovery led to speculation in the area around recent and historic murder cases, including some locals putting forward theories about War of Independence and Civil War-era deaths said to have happened along the old railway line.
