Gardai fine three people who met up for a swim as 5km clamp-down continues

Three people were fined in Limerick this week after meeting up for a 5km swim.

Gardai issued the charges to a group who had travelled as far as 20km to meet up for a night swim.

Going for a swim is not deemed a reasonable excuse and is one of a number of fines dished out in recent weeks.

A Garda spokesperson said: "Castleconnell Gardaí issued fines to 3 people this evening who travelled 20 odd km to meet up for a night swim."

In another incident in Munster in recent days, seven was an unlucky number for a group of rowdy youths in Cork, as they were caught rotten by Gardai in a bid to party in a rented property.

Officers in Kinsale fined a gang of seven youths after interrupting a would-be drinking session that breached Covid-19 regulations.

The boisterous group arrived in Kinsale from Cork City in two taxis, and proceeded to head to the shop to buy drink for the night.

Eagle-eyed Gardai had other plans for the seven men, however, after finding out that they had travelled to Kinsale to rent a property and "have drinks."

All seven of the men were fined, Gardai confirmed, before they headed back to Cork City with their tails between their legs.
