Gardai find van believed to have been used in kidnapping and assault of Quinn executive Kevin Lunney

Gardai have found the van believed to have been used in the kidnapping of businessman Kevin Lunney.

The father-of-six was abducted from near his home and brutally beaten by a gang of thugs on September 17.

Mr Lunney, 50, endured horrific “life-changing” injuries in the vicious attack after he was ambushed a short distance from his house in Kinawley, Co Fermanagh.

The Quinn Industrial Holdings chief was brought to a secluded area in Ballinagh, Co Cavan where he suffered deep slash wounds from a blade during a prolonged onslaught.

Mr Lunney suffered severe injuries to his face and a double leg break in the barbaric assault.

He was stripped and his fingernails were brutally cut away as his abductors attempted to destroy DNA evidence.

He was then dumped near the parish of Cornafean where a passing farmer sitting high in a tractor spotted the seriously injured man at around 9pm.

And gardai believe they have now tracked down the van used in the abduction.

It is understood the find was made within the last hour.

A source said: "This is the van that is believed to have been used in the kidnapping of Kevin Lunney, Gardai have been searching all over the country for it over the last month.

"And now they've found it somewhere between Dunshaughlin and Dunboyne in Co Meath."
