Gardai find saw sticking out of truck that 'could have caused serious injury'

Gardai stopped a motorist in Kerry this week after spotting a saw sticking out at the back of their trailer.

The discovery was made at a checkpoint in Kerry, and Gardai and the RSA have appealed to the public to be more careful when travelling with heavy loads.

A garda spokesperson said: "This truck was found to have an unsecured load and a saw sticking out the side.

"Whilst unintentional, this could have caused serious injury to a cyclist, motorcyclist or pedestrian.

"Roadsafety should always be a priority. Before starting a journey, you should always make sure your load is secured."

The Gardai later had to expand on their statement after many members of the public made jokes about the saw protruding out the back of the truck, saying: "Just to remind everyone, we all share the road.

"Whilst I appreciate the saw puns....some jokes and comments about cyclists are not funny or appropriate. This could have caused serious injury to someone were it not for our Roads Policing Unit and the RSA."
