A man in his 60s was rushed to hospital with serious injuries following an assault.
The shocking incident happened at around 11pm on Monday on Fairview Strand when he was set upon by a group of people.
When found, the man was unconscious and was taken to the Mater to be treated for his injuries.
Another man, in his 20s, was arrested at the scene and is currently being held by gardai.
A garda spokesman said: "Gardaí are investigating an incident of assault which occurred at Fairview Strand, Dublin 3, late yesterday evening, 7th June 2021.
"At approximately 11:10pm Gardaí received report that a man had been assaulted by a number of individuals on Fairview Strand and attended the scene.
"A male aged in his 60s was discovered in an unconscious state and was taken from the scene by emergency services to the Mater Hospital to be treated for serious injuries.
"A male in his 20s was arrested at the scene and is currently detained at Clontarf Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
"This investigation is ongoing."
