Gardai discover explosive components, guns and munitions during searches in Kerry

Two men have been arrested after explosive components, firearms and ammo were seized during a search operation in Kerry.

The men, one in his 20s and the other in his 50s, are being held at Garda stations in Kerry.

In a statement, the Gardai said: "As a result of an intelligence-led operation by the Special Detective Unit (SDU) and Gardaí from the Kerry Division with the assistance of members from the Irish Defence Forces, a number of searches were conducted today in County Kerry.

"As a result of these searches, explosive components, firearms and munitions have been recovered and seized.

Both men were arrested under the provisions of section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

Investigations are ongoing.
