Gardai deliver Liam MacCarthy Cup to young Tipperary fan in birthday surprise

Gardai in Tipperary and the county board have come together to give a young fan the birthday surprise of a lifetime.

Fionn Gardiner Murphy was treated to a special delivery of the Liam MacCarthy cup and the James Nolan cup yesterday.

Tipperary GAA and Gardai in Cahir worked together to bring the two trophies that the Premier County captured last summer to the youngster's house.

The brilliant gesture also included a signed hurl, a sliotar and an invitation for the youngster to visit the local police station with his family once measures to battle the coronavirus crisis have been lifted.

In a tweet, Gardai said: "Cahir Community Policing organised a special surprise for local birthday boy Fionn Gardiner Murphy.

"The Liam MacCarthy Cup and James Nolan U21 Cup were delivered with flashing lights and sirens thanks to the Tipp GAA County Board. Fionn also got a signed hurley and sliotar!

"Fionn, who has Asperger’s Syndrome, is invited for a tour of the station with his family when Covid-19 restrictions are lifted and a team of Gardaí have promised a game of soccer with his brand new soccer goals."

Tipp brought Liam MacCarthy back to the county for the first time since 2016 last August after a momentous win over old rivals Kilkenny, while the county's U-20 hurlers also took home the James Nolan Cup last summer.
