Gardai corner off Dublin city area after horror incident as man found on ground 'covered in blood'

Gardai cornered off a section of a Dublin city area after a horrific late-night incident.

A manhunt is now under way to find the attacker behind the vicious assault that took place at Wolfe Tone Park near Jervis Street just after 8pm on Wednesday.

A source told Dublin Live that the alarm was raised to Gardai after the victim of the attack, a man in his 40s, was found lying on the ground "covered in blood".

They said: "The man was badly assaulted in Wolfe Tone Park near Jervis Street.

"He was found by Gardai at around 8:15pm. He was still on the ground and covered in blood.

"It looked like he had gotten lumps taken out of him and was in a very bad way.

"It looked worrying for some time as he wasn't moving but thankfully he regained consciousness."

The source added: "This area in particular has gotten extremely bad for violence lately, especially during lockdown.

"Nearly every second day, somebody is getting attacked around here."

A Garda spokeswoman said: "Gardaí are investigating an assault which occurred in Wolfe Tone Square on the 3 March at approximately 8:00pm.

"A male aged in his 40s received non-life threatening injuries."

She added: "No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing."
