Gardai confirm ISIS bride Lisa Smith 'remains detained' at Kevin Street Garda Station

ISIS bride Lisa Smith continues to be detained at Kevin Street Garda Station, gardai have confirmed.

The 38-year-old was arrested under suspicion of terrorist offences yesterday after she landed with her two-year-old daughter at Dublin Airport.

She was then taken to Kevin Street Garda Station and detained under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act.

A garda spokesman said: “An Irish Citizen (38-year-old female) arrested on suspicion of terrorist offences following her deportation from Turkey, remains detained at a South Dublin Garda station under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act, as amended.”

She can be held  for up to three days for questioning.

Smith, who had her daughter on her lap, was taken from her seat five minutes before landing. She has denied being involved in any violence.

Touching down at Dublin Airport yesterday morning, she was met by gardai waiting in a blacked-out SUV on the runway.

She was whisked away and is detained under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act.

The investigation is being carried out by Counter-Terrorism International section of the Special Detective Unit. Her daughter was handed over to Smith’s family who are now caring for her.

It’s understood Smith was married four times and her daughter’s father was a British jihadi who was killed while fighting for the group.

Smith worked on the Government jet while in the Air Corps and accompanied former president Mary Robinson and Taoiseach Bertie Ahern.

She converted to Islam in 2011, then quit the Air Corps and in 2015 travelled to Syria, through Tunisia.

Smith and her daughter were put into a camp for ISIS widows and children on the Syrian border.

She escaped last month following the Turkish invasion before she was picked up and handed over to Turkish officials.
