An investigation is under way after shots were fired outside a school in Dublin.
The incident happened at about 3.40pm on Tuesday afternoon in the Corduff area.
Gardai said a lone gunman appeared to target a man in his 20s who was waiting outside Riversdale Community School on Blanchardstown Road North.
A garda spokesman said nobody was injured in the attack and the gunman ran off in the direction of Corduff Grove.
A number of people were arrested at the scene, but they were released following searches.
Superintendent William Carolan, of Blanchardstown garda station, condemned the attack which he described as reckless.
He said it had taken place in broad daylight at a time when school was just about to finish and students would have been exiting to be collected by parents.
He appealed to anyone with any information to contact them.
Gardai carried out a number of searches in the vicinity on Tuesday evening, with the assistance of the emergency response unit and armed support units.
No further arrests were made.
Local TD Jack Chambers said: "There has been a recent escalation in violent crime in the West Dublin area as of late, but the fact that someone could consciously attempt to cause grave harm by firing gun shots outside a school in broad daylight marks a very alarming precedent.
"This latest incident will have proven traumatic for parents and students who were in the immediate vicinity. There is no doubt that innocent people felt frightened."
The Fianna Fail politician said local gardai were doing their best to increase their visibility, but he said additional resources were needed.

"For such an incident to occur in a residential area within yards of a school in the middle of a weekday afternoon is not normal and should not be treated as a normal part of everyday life," he added.
Labour TD for Dublin West Joan Burton called on the Government to respond urgently to the shooting by increasing the resources for community policing, and clamping down on the spate of recent incidents locally.
"That someone could act with such impunity where children are being taught is deeply troubling," she said.
Ms Burton added: "We need more community policing urgently... This type of shooting cannot be allowed become the norm."
