Gardai close road as two young men rushed to hospital after car hits tree in horror crash

Two young men were rushed to hospital after a car hit a tree in a late-night crash in Co Monaghan.

The incident happened on the outskirts of the village of Scotstown at around 3.35am on Monday.

Gardai and emergency services raced to the scene and the road was closed.

Two men in their 20s were injured in the collision and brought to Cavan General Hospital.

It is understood that their injuries are not life-threatening.

A garda spokesman said: "Gardaí and Emergency Services attended the scene of a single vehicle road traffic collision where a car struck a tree near Scotstown, Monaghan this morning, 8th November 2021 at 3.35am.

"Two men in their 20s suffered non-life threatening injuries and were conveyed to Cavan General Hospital for treatment.

"Investigations are ongoing."

While Monaghan Fire Brigade added: "Monaghan fire brigade are currently in attendance at a single vehicle RTC on the outskirts of Scotstown village.

"Bog road is currently closed to facilitate emergency vehicles."
