Gardai close road as three rushed to hospital after 'bad accident' in Co Galway

Three people were rushed to hospital after a "bad accident" on a road in Co Galway on Saturday night.

The two-vehicle crash happened on the Gort Road in Loughrea shortly after 8pm.

Gardai closed the road and three ambulances rushed to the scene to assist those injured in the collision, Galway Beo reports.

The incident took place at the entrance of the swings and park in the area with diversions in both directions as the trio were treated at the scene.

Nobody had received life threatening injuries and all were brought to University Hospital Galway for treatment with the road reopened a short time later.

An eye witness said: "Bad accident at the entrance to the swings/park Loughrea - three ambulances, fire brigade and gardai at the scene. Road closed in both directions diversions in place."

A garda spokesman told Galway Beo: "Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a two-vehicle traffic collision that occurred on Gort Road, Loughrea, Co Galway at approximately 8pm last night, Saturday, the 9th of October 2021.

"Three persons received non-life threatening injuries as a result of this collision and were conveyed to University Hospital Galway for treatment.

"The road was closed for a short time while the scene was being attended and is now re-opened for use."
