Gardai have launched an investigation into a mystery crash in Tipperary – with no driver at the scene of the accident when officers arrived.
Officers closed the Newcastle to Cappoquin Road after receiving reports of a one-car crash last night.
But when they got to the site of the accident, the driver of the car had vanished – seemingly without a trace.
The crash was reported at around 9pm last night, and Gardai this morning confirmed that the scene is "currently preserved for technical examination."
A Garda spokesperson told the Irish Mirror: "Gardaí received reports of a single vehicle road traffic collision which occurred in Newcastle, Clonmel, Co Tipperary on the 27 th January 2021 at approximately 9:00pm.
"Gardaí attended scene and found no persons present. The scene is currently preserved for technical examination.
"Investigations are ongoing."
The Gardai refused to comment when asked about the state of the car when officers arrived, or on the nature of the investigation that's underway.
