Gardai close off Dublin estate as bomb squad tackle possible explosive outside house

Gardai closed off a Dublin housing estate late last night as the army bomb squad were called in to deal with a suspect device.

The possible explosive was left outside a house in the Pearse Gardens area of Sallynoggin at around 9pm on Sunday night.

A throng of Gardai sealed off the area for hours as the the Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) attended the scene and tackled the device after a Garda escort.

They safely detonated the device just over two hours later with the scene's tape lifted after 11pm.

A Garda spokesman said that investigations into the incident were ongoing.

He said: "Gardaí received reports of a suspect device left outside a residence in the Sallynoggin area of Dun Laoghaire on Sunday 20th December.

"Shortly after 9pm the area was sealed off by Gardaí and a cordon put in place.

"The Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) were notified and attended the scene.

"At approximately 11.15pm the device was safely dismantled and thereafter the cordon was lifted.

"A further technical examination of the device will now take place."
