Gardai charge man over stabbing of two women and boy during burglary in Cork city

A man has been charged over an aggravated burglary which left a woman in critical condition.

Two women, in their 20s and 40s, and a 10-year-old boy received apparent stab wounds during the incident in Cork city on Monday night.

The woman in her 40s remains in a critical condition at Cork University Hospital after the burglary which happened on Middle Glanmire Road, Mayfield.

Gardai rushed to the scene after 11pm on Monday and arrested a suspect, in his 50s, on Tuesday morning.

He is due to appear before a special sitting of Cork District Court at 9.30pm on Christmas Eve. He was being quizzed at Mayfield Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

A spokeswoman said: "Gardaí investigating the aggravated burglary that occurred at house on Middle Glanmire Road, Mayfield,  Cork, on 23rd December, 2019 have charged the arrested man.

"The arrested man is due to appear before a Special sitting of Cork District Court this evening Tuesday 24th December, 2019 at 9.30pm.

"The woman remains in critical condition. Investigations ongoing."
