Gardai catch driver who 'lets the side down' after being found eight times over drink driving limit

Gardai caught a driver eight times over the legal alcohol limit on the M9 motorway between Kilkenny and Carlow on Thursday.

Officers noticed the HGV was driving erratically along the main road when they pulled them over to find out why.

A bottle of wine was found in the passenger seat while the driver also failed the roadside breath test.

After being arrested and brought back to Carlow Garda Station the driver was found to be eight times over the legal alcohol limit.

Posting on their social media account the gardai said "there's always one who lets the side down" - and court proceedings are to follow.

A spokesperson said: "And theres alway one who lets the side down.. Carlow Roads Policing Unit stopped this HGV for erratic driving on the M9 motorway today. Driver failed roadside breath test.

"He was arrested and conveyed to Carlow Garda Station, where he returned a breath specimen result of 73/100 mg. The limit for a professional driver is 9. Court proceedings to follow."
