Gardai catch cocaine-fuelled motorist who crashed into field during late-night joyride

A motorist was arrested after crashing into a field during a late-night spin with drugs in their system.

Gardai attended the scene of the single-vehicle crash which happened on Monday night near Drumcliff, Co Sligo.

The person behind the wheel of the car which had left the road then underwent a drugs test and subsequently tested positive for cocaine.

They were arrested and brought to Ballymote Garda Station for further testing.

No one was injured during the incident.

A garda spokesman said: "A single-vehicle collision occurred near Drumcliff in Sligo which resulted in the vehicle going off the road. Thankfully no one was injured.

"Gardaí attended and the driver was tested at the scene.

"The driver failed the roadside test and was subsequently arrested and brought to Ballymote Garda Station for further testing.

"The Gardaí now await the results. We continue to appeal to people not to drive while under the influence of alcohol or drugs."
