Gardai catch car 'ghosting' down busy road before making bigger discovery as vehicle seized

Gardai caught a car dangerously 'ghosting' up a busy road before seizing the vehicle.

The incident happened overnight in Co Carlow.

Officers in the region's Roads Policing Unit stopped the car after it was found driving with no lights on.

And gardai soon found out that the driver was an unaccompanied learner.

The car was subsequently seized and court proceedings are expected.

A garda spokesman said: "Gardaí from the Carlow Roads Policing Unit stopped this car after they found it driving with no lights on.

"It was found that the driver was an unaccompanied learner driver. Their car was seized and Proceedings are to follow."

It comes after a busy few days for Ireland's Roads Policing Units, as officers in Wicklow revealed they are hunting for a mystery car after an anonymous tip from a member of the public.

Gardai are investigating after a "high value property" theft at a Sports Direct store in the town.

The incident happened at around 12.45pm on Monday.

Gardai said that a passerby witnessed the theft and went into the shop to share a photo of the thief and a car used in the incident.

However the member of the public did not leave their details and has not yet been traced.

Officers said that the car was a silver Volkswagen Passat, but no further details have been made public.

Gardai are asking for the witness to come forward with their information as they continue to investigate the incident.

A Wicklow garda spokesman said on Monday: "A theft of high value property took place at Sports Direct in Wicklow this afternoon at 12.45 pm

"A passerby witnessed same and went into the shop with a photo of the offender and his car, a silver VW Passat.

"Unfortunately, the witness didn't leave his details and the Gardai at Wicklow would appreciate if he could contact them on 0404-6014."
