Gardai catch 26 drivers for 'lifesaver offences' in just 12 hours in Carlow town

Gardai stopped 26 drivers for "lifesaver offences" in Carlow town in the space of just 12 hours.

The officers conducted an operation on Monday from 7am to 7pm concentrating on the main road offences.

These are speeding, no seat belts, use of mobile phones and drink/drug offences.

In total 26 drivers were found to be breaking the above laws with even more cautioned for other road safety breaches.

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí in Carlow conducted 'Operation Lifesaver' in Carlow Town today between 7am and 7pm.

"The aim was to detect speeding, mobile phone, safety belt and drink\drug driving offences. In total 26 drivers were detected committing lifesaver offences where a fixed charge notice will follow. 

"Many more drivers were stopped, cautioned and educated in relation to other Road Traffic Offences."
