A busy Irish Rail train was delayed for almost an hour on Thursday afternoon after an incident on board.
Gardai were called to the scene in Portarlington after "anti-social behaviour" was reported in the 9.45am service from Westport to Dublin Heuston.
Irish Rail issued the alert shortly before 1pm, and updated passengers later that the train had "departed Portarlington 50 minutes late due to anti-social behaviour".
The incident concerned an alleged assault involving a group of three men on the service to Dublin.
It was claimed that two men had assaulted another man, with the individuals known to each other.
However, no complaint was made by the alleged victim to the gardai and the train subsequently departed with a 50-minute delay.
A spokesperson for Irish Rail told the Irish Mirror: "There was an allegation of an assault by two male customers on another male customer on this service earlier, who were known to each other.
"The train stopped at Portarlington Station, and gardai were called.
"Ultimately, the alleged victim did not wish to make a complaint to gardai and the train proceeded with a 50-minute delay. There was no further incident reported."
A garda spokesperson said they did not have any information on the alleged incident.
