Gardaí called to Halloween night disturbance hours before body was found at Irish hotel

Gardaí are investigating the circumstances after the body of an asylum seeker was found outside a hotel in Co Monaghan.

The man, understood to have been an asylum seeker, was discovered dead outside a hotel on Kingscourt Road in Carrickmacross at 8am this morning.

The deceased, a foreign national, has what sources last night said were unexplained head injuries.

However officers suspect it is possible that the injuries were incurred from a fall.

But it is understood gardai are also keeping an open mind after they had been called to a dispute that occurred within the hotel on Monday night.

Sources say there was a row between a number of individuals - and that gardai had been called over the incident - which occurred at around 10pm.

Officers are understood to be probing whether there is any connection between this incident and the death of this man.

The scene, which is on the land surrounding the hotel, was last night being preserved for a technical examination.

The hotel provides emergency accommodation for people seeking asylum - as well as those in direct provision.

In a statement, gardai said they are investigating the discovery of a body in “unexplained circumstances.”

“At approximately 8am, following a call from a member of the public, Gardaí discovered a man’s body on the curtilage of a premises on the Kingscourt Road at Lossets, Co.Monaghan,” a garda spokesperson said.

“The scene is currently preserved and a technical examination will be conducted by the Garda technical Bureau.

“The office of the State Pathologist have been notified. The results of the post-mortem will determine the course of the investigation.

“No further information is available at this time,” they added.
